The need
The first order of business was a major code clean. Atomist was prepping for a brand refresh, but before any changes happened to the website and blog, they knew they needed a frontend expert to tidy up and improve their existing infrastructure. They needed a more efficient and scalable long-term web solution that both marketing and in-house engineers could maintain.
The Challenge
Atomist maintains three separate applications — the website, the blog, and the web app, and each app has a different set of goals. Additionally, Atomist added numerous incremental changes to these systems through the years (as they should!) that, over time, led to massive inconsistencies. They never had the strategy, expertise, and long-term support to promote best practice, optimization, and growth
The Solution
The goal was to create uniformity across the website, blog, and web application. This started with a comprehensive audit that documented the systems' current state, including coding structure, inconsistencies, goal match, and security. The audit helped prioritize and define long and short-term goals for the web, blog, and app and create a better foundation for implementing the brand refresh. After fixing the highest priority audit items (for example, we fixed numerous code inconsistencies so that we could work more effective), we then started implementing the new design. We have an ongoing partnership with the Atomist marketing, UI/UX designer and engineering teams, where we help them maintain, optimize, and implement new design elements
